Brotherly love

Gentle right?
Lucas will be 3 months tomorrow. Where has the time gone? Lucas' sleeper is 3-6 months. It fit Isaac when he was about 4-5 months!

License to drive?!

I told Nick a few weeks ago that Isaac sat in the front seat of my car when I backed it out of the garage and that he loved it. This is how Nick interpreted it....letting Isaac drive his truck!

Conversations in the car

Isaac: "mommy, there's a monster in the car"
Me: "it's ok, he's a nice monster"
Isaac: "yeah, but he's a monster"
Me: "I know"
Isaac: "he likes to lay under my feet, so don't step on him"
Me: "ok, I won't. What's the monster's name?"
Isaac: "Dinosour Buck!"
Me: "that's a nice name"
Isaac: Yeah, and he has no hair and a bery (aka-very), bery, bery long tail"

Really?

It's always something

When mentally preparing for our second child I thought we would be more laid back about bring home baby#2. And I think I am in certain aspects of parenting but the worrying if I'm doing things right, mommy guilt of giving each child equal attention, and definitely wanting things to go smoothly. I should know by now that things don't always go as smoothly as they do in our heads!

It started with Lucas around his 4th week of life. He started projectile vomiting or spitting up is what I called it. I called it that because Isaac had it and I thought it was no big deal. But it got worse and turned out he had pyloric stenosis. Turns out it's pretty common in first-born boy's. I could not imagine being a first time mother and going through what we went through.

After an x-ray and ultrasound, we were told it could be fixed by surgery. And surprisingly very calm about it because it could be fixed.

The hardest part of all this was the night before the surgery. He was too dehydrated to have surgery that night. So, he received IV fluids throughout the night and couldn't eat at all. Nick said he would stay at the hospital and I could go home and spend time with Isaac. Again, the mom guilt kicked in that I wasn't staying with my newborn! I wasn't breastfeeding and Nick could 100% handle it. And I so glad I did because he cried all night and was vomiting stomach bile cause the little guy had no food in him.

Surgery went great but he couldn't eat until 5 hours after surgery. That was kind of hard. How do you tell a starving baby to suck on a pacifier instead of a bottle!

The tubes and IV's were hard to look at but they were necessary.

I love this picture of Isaac.

He looks so grown up. He was great at the hospital and was able to get a few balloons for himself...I mean the baby!

Things are great now. We felt like he was eating like every hour but I guess he just had to catch up since he missed it for those 3 days! I know I'm already comparing...but it's so different from Isaac. 30 minute naps, only 2 months and is in 3-6 or 6 month clothes, and hates shopping with mom because he hates the carseat!!

Whose at the table?

I needed to change the title of my blog because it was mainly about our first son and now that we have two I needed to be fair and I didn't want Lucas to look back and have "second child syndrome" of being looked over. So...welcome to Buck Table for Four! I can't believe we have two children and will say that when we go out!
Lots has happened since Lucas was born. Well, not too much it seems like it because I haven't posted since he was born. It's definitely been a roller coaster of a ride and I have gone through being truely happy to feelings of 'why did we decide to have two!' Don't take that wrong, I'm love my life and elated to have Lucas in our life but adjusting to two kids is what it is...an adjustment.

So, whose at the table and who will you be reading about...

Mom and dad--aka Nick and Amanda

Big brother Isaac

Our newest addition--Lucas...the one we've been adjusting to!
